McArthur’s Mr Pie Chick Rules Golden State

Share

Although Morning Snow, the 6-5 favorite, disappointed in Saturday’s $200,000 Golden State Derby, the night was still a success for trainer Donna McArthur.

Mr Pie Chick, a 9-1 shot and one of three McArthur sent out in the Grade 1, beat 9-5 second-choice Special Queen Sa to win for owners Marcus Smith and Oscar Rohne.

Ridden by Alvin Brossette, whose last major win at Los Alamitos came on Tailor Fit in the 2001 Champion of Champions, the 3-year-old Pie In The Sky gelding completed the 400 yards in 19.83 seconds. It was the third win in 10 starts for Mr Pie Chick.
