Stanford Defeats Oregon State
Sebnem Kimyacioglu never lost confidence in her shooting. She just needed to get more comfortable.
Kimyacioglu scored 16 of her career-high 24 points in the first half to help No. 9 Stanford beat Oregon State, 88-65, in a Pacific 10 Conference opener Saturday at Stanford.
“That was a breakout game for Sebnem,” Stanford Coach Tara VanDerveer said. “She really got it going.”
Kristen Newlin had 16 points to help the Cardinal (8-2) improve to 19-0 at home against the Beavers.
Junior transfer Shannon Howell, playing in her first game with the Beavers (6-4), scored a career-high 32 points.
No. 12 Georgia 78, Georgia Tech 62 -- Georgia’s Kara Braxton scored eight of her 26 points in an early second-half run in the Russell Athletic Shootout at Atlanta.
Fallon Stokes had 23 points and Megan Isom scored 11 for Georgia Tech (7-3).
Georgia (8-2) had lost to the Yellow Jackets for the first time in last year’s shootout.
No. 17 Louisiana State 75, Florida State 68 -- Doneeka Hodges and Temeka Johnson of LSU (10-2) scored 20 points apiece at the Russell Athletic Shootout.
Genesis Choice had 15 points for the Seminoles (6-4).
