Texas Coach Jody Conradt called it a “respect game,” and she got just that after a 70-60 victory over No. 2-ranked Tennessee Sunday at Knoxville, Tenn.

“I think we just played one of the best teams in the country,” Pat Summitt said after a game in which Conradt tied the Tennessee coach for most coaching victories in women’s basketball with 828.

The No. 5 Longhorns (11-1) struggled to a two-point lead at halftime but never relinquished that advantage in the second half. Shyra Ely was limited to 10 points on five-for-16 shooting for Tennessee (7-1).

No. 16 Virginia Tech 83, Furman 70 -- Ieva Kublina scored a career-high 25 points to lift the Hokies (9-0) over the Paladins (3-5) in the first round of a tournament at Blacksburg, Va.

No. 18 Ohio St. 73, No. 21 UC Santa Barbara 59 -- The Buckeyes (8-1) shot 65% in the second half and 53% overall to defeat the Gauchos (5-4) at Santa Barbara. Kristen Mann and Lindsay Taylor each scored 14 points for Santa Barbara.

No. 25 Boston College 84, North Carolina Greensboro 53 -- The Eagles (9-1) improved their best start in school history as they beat the Spartans (2-8) at Boston.
