Jones Hits Milestone Home Run

Chipper Jones hit the 300th home run of his career and Mike Hampton (9-8) pitched seven strong innings and drove in a run to lead the Atlanta Braves over the San Diego Padres, 5-4, Monday at Petco Park.

Jones homered to lead off the third inning and became the fourth player in franchise history to reach 300 homers, joining Hank Aaron (733), Eddie Mathews (493) and Dale Murphy (371).

The Braves won for the ninth time in 12 games. It was their 17th victory in their last 20 road games.

St. Louis 10, Cincinnati 5 -- Albert Pujols homered for the fifth time in four games and tied his career high with five runs batted in to lead the Cardinals at St. Louis.

Pujols, nine for 18 with 11 RBIs in the last four games, scored his National League-leading 100th and 101st runs.

Scott Rolen drove in two runs for the Cardinals, giving him a league-leading 104.

Pittsburgh 8, Arizona 7 -- Daryle Ward tied a career high with six RBIs and fell a single short of hitting for the cycle for the second time this season, and Jack Wilson hit a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to lead the Pirates at Phoenix.

San Francisco 8, Montreal 5 -- Run-scoring singles by Ricky Ledee and A.J. Pierzynski keyed a three-run eighth inning for the Giants at San Francisco.
