A powerful earthquake shook Indonesia’s tourist island of Bali, damaging dozens of buildings and injuring at least seven people, officials and witnesses said.

The magnitude 6.1 quake struck shortly before dawn about 18 miles off the east coast of Bali, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said. The victims were injured while fleeing their houses on the eastern part of the island, said Gede Suryana, a hospital staff member in the town of Karangasem, where the roofs of several buildings were slightly damaged.
