Utah Win Streak Is Over

Tye Gunn threw a four-yard scoring pass to Michael DePriest in overtime as Texas Christian defeated Utah, 23-20, Thursday night in Fort Worth, snapping the Utes’ 18-game win streak.

Freshman Aaron Brown rushed for 163 yards in 17 carries for TCU (2-1), which rebounded from its loss to Southern Methodist after beating then-No. 7 Oklahoma in the season opener.

Utah (2-1) lost for the first time since dropping a 47-35 decision to New Mexico on Oct. 25, 2003.

The Utes entered with the nation’s second-longest winning streak behind top-ranked USC, which has won 23 in a row.

“Nothing lasts forever,” Utah Coach Kyle Whittingham said. “One streak was not going to go to infinity, that’s obvious.”

A game after Utah’s Brian Johnson set a team record for pass efficiency against Utah State, missing on only three of 21 attempts, the sophomore went 15 for 30 for 208 yards.

“We didn’t deserve to win this game tonight,” Johnson said.

Michigan State running back Jason Teague could play Saturday against Notre Dame after being suspended for last week’s 42-14 victory over Hawaii.

Teague had 89 yards and a touchdown in 15 carries in the Spartans’ 49-14 victory over Kent State on Sept. 3. He will travel with the team to South Bend, Ind. Coach John L. Smith did not say why Teague was suspended for the Hawaii game.

John Sciarra, a transfer from UCLA, had 298 passing yards and five touchdowns as Wagner (3-0) routed St. Peter’s, 52-25, at Jersey City, N.J. St. Peter’s fell to 1-2.
