Thanksgiving weekend club events

Whether it’s a holiday staycation or a busy attempt at entertaining family, the long Thanksgiving weekend is no time to hole up at home. After the tryptophan wears off, the city offers plenty of chances to catch a concert, sip a sophisticated cocktail or slam-dance next to a speaker. Here’s a smattering of weekend happenings to get you -- and your houseguests -- out of the house and on the town.

Friday

Miss Kitty’s White Trash Ball @ Dragonfly: The day after Thanksgiving, the “filthy family” from Miss Kitty’s monthly soirees will be outdoing themselves once again with the White Trash Ball, a gay-friendly, trailer-park-themed fete, complete with live performances, “truck stop games” and two areas of music -- one devoted entirely to hair metal. There’s no cover and $1 drinks from 9 to 10 p.m. Be warned: This bash is not for the faint of heart. Fable @ Medusa Lounge: The former Lowenbrau Keller has been reborn as the Medusa Lounge, but the new owners kept the beautifully bizarre Bavarian décor (originally installed by a German set decorator), complete with Wagnerian wood carvings and ornate chandeliers and stained glass. Friday sees the return of the aptly named “Fable” dance party featuring some of the best Tech-Funk and electro DJs from L.A.’s underground. Soup Kitchen @ the Edison: Part Art Deco, part steampunk, and all gilded glamour, nothing says anachronistic opulence like the Edison. An absolute must-see for those out-of-town friends who think they’ve seen it all, this nightlife mecca will be holding its wildly popular “Soup Kitchen” specials on Friday evening. From 5 to 7, patrons who pass the strictly enforced dress code can get their fill of complimentary tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, 40% off of drinks, plus a hand-selected bourbon or gin cocktail for 35 cents. Compression @ Cinespace: After-Turkey Day dancing goes all night at Cinespace, with Compression’s one-year anniversary taking over the Hollywood Boulevard venue. Well known for bringing in top-shelf names in techno and electronica, Compression welcomes another dance music luminary, Claude VonStroke. Tiesto @ Shrine Auditorium: There’s probably nobody else around right now who fits the description of “international superstar DJ” better than Tijs Michiel Verwest, a.k.a. Tiesto. A producer of über-epic progressive trance, Mr. T captivates dance music fans by the tens of thousands all over the globe and is now touring behind his fourth studio album, “Kaleidescope.” Shrine Auditorium, 665 W. Funky Sole @ Echo: If the words “deep funk,” “raw soul” and “no cover” sound like dance music magic to you, then Funky Sole is a must-go. Avaland: Made in Brazil @ Avalon: The weekly hot spot for top-shelf electro and indie dance is handing the decks over to the Brazilians -- namely, DJs Anderson Noise and Junior C. Plus, they’ve thrown in a Swedish nob-twiddler for good measure, Sebastian Ingrosso. Watch for the “Made in Brazil” fliers and e-mails to win free VIP tickets and dinner at the Honey Lounge. Harlow Gold Burlesque @ Bordello: Further proof that Sunday nights can get as steamy as any other, the gorgeous girls of Harlow Gold Burlesque bring a red-hot set of dance numbers to the Bordello Bar stage every week. Co-choreographed by Tracy Phillips and Dominic Carbone, Harlow Gold features burlesque never-quite-nude ditties with a classic yet edgy approach. Deep w/ Tony Powell @ Vanguard: Since its beginnings at the Viper Room in 1998, Deep has become a L.A. clubland institution.
