Metrolink will open a new station next year that should make it easier for travelers from the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valley to get to Bob Hope Burbank Airport (BUR).

The Bob Hope Airport-Hollywood Way station planned at San Fernando Boulevard and Hollywood Way broke ground in June. The Metrolink stop will be added to the Antelope Valley Line, which runs between Lancaster and the airport via Santa Clarita.

The rail service agency is spending $3.7 million in transportation funds for the station that goes almost all the way to the airport. Passengers can take a free shuttle for the last mile of the journey.

The Ventura County Line already brings passengers to the airport via train. Bob Hope Airport also provides free SuperShuttle service to Metrolink’s downtown Burbank station and to Metro’s North Hollywood station, which in turn connect with the Metro Red Line to Los Angeles and the Metro Orange Line to Warner Center.

No additional service will be added to the Antelope Valley Line, but service in August increased to 12 trains on Saturdays and Sundays, a spokesman says.
