Acura to run prototype NSX supercar ahead of August IndyCar race
With Acura’s forthcoming NSX hybrid sports car marching ever so slowly toward its 2015 launch, the automaker plans to tease fans with another glimpse of the car in August.
Acura announced Thursday that it will have a running prototype lapping the course ahead of the Honda Indy 200 IndyCar Series race on Aug. 4. The race itself will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network.
Acura is still playing coy about just what exactly will be powering this mid-engine hybrid. To date, the automaker has said only that it will have a direct-injected V-6 engine paired with a trio of electric motors. One motor will be integrated into the gas engine, while the remaining two will power the front wheels (meaning the car will be all-wheel-drive).

Power will flow from these units to the wheels via a dual-clutch transmission.
In January, Acura brought a concept NSX to the Detroit Auto Show. The concept previewed not only where the design of the exterior was headed, but also gave us a first look at the car’s interior.
Pricing also remains unknown, though many expect the car to compete with something like the Audi R8, which sells for between $120,000 and $200,000. When the NSX does go into production in 2015, it will be built in Ohio.
