Gina Carano will not return to ‘Star Wars’ after ‘abhorrent’ social media posts

Gina Carano will not be appearing in any future “Star Wars” projects.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm representative said in a statement Wednesday. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

According to Variety and the Hollywood Reporter, Carano has also been dropped by talent agency UTA. As of Thursday morning, Carano had not reacted to the news on her social accounts. Her most recent Instagram post, on Wednesday, featured a photo of her with the cryptic caption, “This is going to be fun” with a smile emoji.

The actress portrayed former Rebel shock trooper Cara Dune for two seasons of “The Mandalorian.” She was introduced in the Season 1 episode “Sanctuary,” in which she proved to be a formidable mercenary and ally to the titular bounty hunter.

The character was eventually revealed to be from Alderaan — the destroyed home planet of Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher).

Carano has frequently drawn ire for her social media statements. Her name was trending earlier Wednesday after she shared an Instagram post that suggested being a conservative today is comparable with being Jewish during the Holocaust. That post has since been deleted.

It was not the first time fans on social media demanded she be fired from the Disney+ series. And other fans rallied to show their support for her, using the hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus.

She has previously been called out for posts that mocked wearing masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic and making fun of the practice of sharing pronouns (something her “Mandalorian” costar Pedro Pascal does on his Twitter account).

Carano has also falsely claimed voter fraud affected the results of the 2020 presidential election and has shared other conspiracy theories in her posts.
