BOOKS

Marisa Silver Some people just hit the ground running: Marisa Silver was featured in the New Yorker’s first “Debut Fiction” issue. Winner of the O. Henry Prize, Silver’s fiction has been included in the Best American Short Stories, the O. Henry Prize Stories, as well as other anthologies. Her new collection of eight beautiful and brutal stories, “Alone With You,” is out. Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd. 7 p.m. Free. (310) 443-7000.

Scott Weiland Weiland embodied the promise and peril of early ‘90s rock. As the frontman of Stone Temple Pilots, he penned some of the decade’s most iconic songs yet threatened to undermine his career with his frequent and publicized battles with substance abuse. After 20 years in the limelight, his debut memoir “Not Dead & Not for Sale” traces these themes back to his childhood up through his recent reunion with STP. Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. 7 p.m. Must purchase book at $24, https://www.booksoup.com.

MUSIC

System of a Down Lately the Forum has been practically all Prince, all the time, but the Purple One will step aside for an evening to make room for the manic, metallic alt-rock of Serj Tankian and his cohorts, who recently reunited after a five-year hiatus. The gypsy-punk group Gogol Bordello will also perform. The Forum, 3900 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood. 7:30 p.m. $29.50-$59.50. (310) 330-7300. https://www.thelaforum.com.
