Jessica Simpson reveals figure (but all eyes are on Katie Couric)
Jessica Simpson may have busted her hump to unveil her post-baby body on chat show “Katie,” but she needn’t obsess about feedback: Most folks were sizing up Katie Couric.
Simpson gave birth to daughter Maxwell Drew in May and, in support of the singer’s Weight Watchers endorsement, pledged to show off a slimmed figure on the debut episode of Couric’s daytime program.
“I put on more baby weight than I was planning on putting on, so I think that I really have to separate myself from the world’s expectations and really just be healthy with myself,” she told Couric on Monday.
No problem — much of the discussion around “Katie” has surrounded its host and the potential she has for longterm success in a market that includes competition from Ricki Lake and Jeff Probst (get the Times review of “Katie” here).
Also inviting singer Sheryl Crow to her couch, Katie prodded Simpson about her workout regimen.
“I’ve done something where I basically take [Maxwell] with me so whether it’s strapping her on me or strolling around the neighborhood. My new goal is 14,000 steps a day, so I wear a pedometer, and it’s a lot. It’s over about 17 miles,” Simpson said.
That’s a long way to go, and Couric should certainly be sympathetic — given the mixed response to the debut, she has some distance to walk in gaining acceptance from viewers.
