Solange’s Saint Records announces first release

Solange Knowles’ imprint Saint Records has announced its first release. It’s not the highly anticipated follow-up to Knowles’ EP “True,” however. Instead, it’s a compilation curated by the singer.

“Saint Heron” will feature 12 tracks from a smattering of left-field R&B; acts including Cassie, Jade J, Petite Noir, Kelela, India Shawn, Sampha and Jhené Aiko, who played Pop & Hiss her contribution (a sensual stunner titled “Drinking & Driving”) during a recent listening session.

Solange will also be featured on the compilation, which is planned to be an annual release. The album arrives Nov. 12.

Earlier this year, Knowles announced that she had launched her own boutique indie label, which will be distributed through Sony. The first single from “Saint Heron” is Kelela’s “Go All Night.” The song’s minimalist groove was first teased as an interlude on her recent “Cut 4 Me” mixtape and appears in full on the album.

“With Saint Heron, I really wanted to celebrate and continue to cultivate the community for genre-defying R&B; artists,” Knowles said in a statement. “I’ve personally connected with all of these extremely talented artists, and I’m really excited for us to come together through the compilation as a new movement for music.”
