Miley Cyrus generates tweets as a sexy Michele Bachmann on ‘SNL’

Two major topics of conversation are burning up the Twittersphere these days: Miley Cyrus and the government shutdown. Both came together on Saturday night when Cyrus hosted “SNL” and starred in a racy video called “We Did Stop (the government)” where she plays a crotch-grabbing, tongue-wagging Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) alongside Taran Killam’s white-leotard-wearing Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio).

Needless to say, the 20-year-old pop star’s performance, which includes her licking an Abraham Lincoln doll and twerking with Boehner while singing a chorus riffing on her popular “We Can’t Stop” tune, is generating a lot of buzz on the interwebs.

On Sunday morning the unlikely Google combo of “Miley Cyrus Michele Bachmann” pulled up more than 400,000 results. Twitter was also roaring with chatter on the video, much of it positive. It seems Cyrus’ willingness to both mock herself and the GOP appealed to fans, many of whom were divided about her hugely controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year.

“Saturday Night Live’s” Seth Meyers summed up the predominant feeling on Twitter by posting the video and writing, “Miley Cyrus was game and has game. Here she is as Michele Bachmann.”

Other tweets were equally laudatory, with many people commenting on how hilarious it was, and some people asking if the GOP is going to try to find a way to tie Cyrus’ performance to President Obama.

Conservative outlet the Blaze was taken aback, however, posting a warning: “EDITOR’S NOTE: This article contains mature content that may be offensive to some readers. Proceed with caution. -- Miley Cyrus performed a provocative rendition of her ‘We Can’t Stop’ single last night.”

The headline of the article the site linked to read, “Consider Carefully if You Should Watch the New (NSFW) Miley Cyrus SNL Sketch Featuring John Boehner and Michele Bachmann Doing Unspeakable Things.”

Speaking of those things, many viewers will have a hard time shaking the image of an extremely gay Boehner character in a tiny white half-top emblazoned with the presidential seal straddling Uncle Sam while Cyrus’ Bachmann stuffs dollar bills in his bearded mouth.

“It’s our party we can do what we want / It’s our party we can say what we want / We can stop what we want / We can defund what we want,” goes the chorus. “If you’re not ready for healthcare can I get a ‘hell no?’ ”
