A 23-year-old woman was on life support Monday as police continued their search for five people who beat the women into unconsciousness early Saturday outside a downtown Santa Ana nightclub.

The incident occurred about 12:20 a.m. outside the Crosby in the 400 block of North Broadway, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, a spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.

“It started as a verbal argument and escalated into a physical altercation,” Bertagna said.

“They beat her until she was unconscious,” he said.

Witnesses said three women and two men hit her and continued to stomp on her when she fell to the ground, Bertagna said.

Detectives are reviewing video of the fight captured by bystanders, Bertagna said, but there doesn’t appear to be any surveillance video from nearby businesses.

The attackers are believed to be 20 to 25 years old.

Police declined to identify the victim. Friends and family of the victim have taken to social media to ask for help in finding the attackers. They identified the victim as Kim Pham.

Though a website is raising funds for the woman, a person identifying herself as Pham’s sister said that the family did not wish to receive any donations.

“We wish to find closure in this tragedy,” Katie Nguyen wrote Monday morning.
