Man killed at Marina del Rey complex was a ‘courtesy’ patroller
A man found shot to death early Monday outside an upscale apartment complex in Marina del Rey was a “courtesy patrol” team member.
An email sent by General Manager Sue Kohan to residents at the Shores complex said “a terrible tragedy occurred” that “involved one of the members of our courtesy patrol team.”
A person with knowledge of the incident who spoke on the condition of anonymity because authorities are still investigating said courtesy patrol members are employees of an outside firm and serve as a resource for residents and visitors but are not security guards.
The body was discovered outside the complex near visitor parking spaces, sources said. Police tape roped off the complex’s parking lot Monday morning.
According to The Times Homicide Report, only one other homicide has occurred in Marina del Rey since January 1, 2007.
Shores is a 544-apartment complex that opened this year. Its developers and managers previously told The Times that the property was meant to target people seeking the California beach lifestyle and people who work in the technology, media and entertainment businesses flourishing on the Westside. Rents at the complex range from about $2,200 to about $4,000.
Shores management is holding a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday to “address any questions and concerns,” the email said.
