Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes near Niland, California

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Thursday evening one mile from Niland, California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 9:38 p.m. at a depth of 0 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 16 miles from Brawley, 26 miles from Imperial, 29 miles from El Centro and 200 miles from Phoenix.

In the last ten days, there has been one earthquake magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
