Officer accused of sexual misconduct at juvenile hall makes bail

A corrections officer at a San Bernardino juvenile hall accused of sexual misconduct with a minor was released on bail Wednesday evening, jail records show.

Latavia Davis, 30, was arrested earlier in the day on suspicion of sexual misconduct with a minor held at the center, authorities said.

Davis’ arrest came a day after probation officials began investigating the allegations made by the male minor, according to a statement from the San Bernardino Police Department. Davis, of Menifee, was taken into custody after she reported to work Wednesday morning.

An investigation of Davis began Tuesday, immediately after the minor reported the alleged misconduct, and corrections authorities turned the matter over to San Bernardino police, whose investigators “substantiated the allegations,” according to the statement.

San Bernardino County Chief Probation Officer Michelle Scray Brown said the department acted quickly because “we are always hyper-vigilant of safety and security issues in our institutions.”

“I have no tolerance for misconduct by the officers of this department,” Brown said in a statement, “but the abuse of minors detained in our care is the most egregious violation of the trust placed in us to protect everyone in our community.”
