Baseball: Fountain Valley defense might be the best in Division 1
I don’t want to jinx the Fountain Valley Barons, but they might have the best defense in Southern Section Division 1 baseball.
They have three shortstops on the field at the same time. The one playing shortstop, Daniel Patzlaff, is headed to Oregon. The second baseman, JT Navarro, is really a shortstop. And the center fielder, Willie Aguilar, was the shortstop at L.A. Cathedral. Don’t ever test any of their arms.
Then the third baseman, Justin Brand, is so good that they call him Brooks Robinson, who was a Hall of Famer with the Baltimore Orioles and was known as The Human Vacuum Cleaner.
The first baseman, Brock Lundquist, besides hitting home runs, knows how to field one-hoppers.
The catcher, Dan Rosica, is not bad himself. And so it becomes clear how Scott Schultz is 14-0 on the mound. He relies on his defense.
Fountain Valley plays at Santa Margarita on Tuesday in a second-round playoff game.
