Football: St. Francis wins first league title since 1997
The 2014 St. Francis football team is intent on making history, and the Golden Knights completed their regular season with a 10-0 record and a first league title since 1997 after a 46-15 win over Salesian on Thursday night.
Quarterback Jeremiah Martin pulled off something even more rare _ finishing the regular season with zero interceptions. He passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more. He was 10 of 14 passing for 160 yards.
St. Francis is ranked No. 1 in the Southeast Division. It’s the team’s best start since 1966 and first league title for Coach Jim Bonds.
Avery Williams had three sacks. Areg Nazarian reached 1,000 yards rushing on the season. And Dylan Crawford continued to be the most dangerous player on the field with a big-play run and a big-play catch.
