Report: Eagles kicker Parkey to IR, expected to sign Caleb Surgis

The Eagles are changing kickers. They will place Cody Parkey on injured reserve with a groin injury, according to NFL.com. The team is expected to sign former Dolphins kicker Caleb Sturgis, a league source said Monday. tmpplchld The transactions were not official Monday evening. Kelly claimed it was a “new injury.” Parkey made a 30-yard field goal and three extra points during the game, but he struggled on his kickoffs.tmpplchld The 23-year-old kicker had issues all summer. He missed the last two preseason games because of a groin injury after misfiring on kicks in the first two preseason games. tmpplchld Parkey also pushed a potential game-winning field goal wide right in the season opener, but he said after the game it was unrelated to the injury. The problems stood out because Parkey was so reliable in 2014, when he went 32 of 36 on field goals and earned a spot in the Pro Bowl.tmpplchld The Eagles worked out several kickers on Monday. The group included Carey Spear, whose “Murderleg” moniker caught the attention of Eagles fans when he spent training camp with the team in 2014. Sturgis, a fifth-round draft pick in 2013, was 55 of 71 (77.5 percent) for the Dolphins with touchbacks on 47.2 percent of his kickoffs.
