Chivas USA beats L.A. Blues, 2-1

Chivas USA defeated the L.A. Blues, 2-1, at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Stadium on Tuesday night to advance to the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup.

Chivas will play the winner of Wednesday’s game between the Galaxy and the Carolina RailHawks.

Carlos Alvarez scored the tying goal for Chivas off a pass from Tristan Bowen. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy scored the go-ahead goal on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

L.A. Blues scored in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Defender Steven Purdy was back with Chivas USA after playing for El Salvador’s national team.

Chivas returns to Major League Soccer play when it hosts Seattle on Saturday. Chivas has not won in its last seven MLS matches.
