Pac-12 media day: Colorado looks for boost from youth movement

Share

A year ago, Colorado was ranked last in thePac-12 preseason rankings.

Its first year in the newly formed “power conference” under first-year head coach Jon Embree followed that script, with the Buffalos (3-10) finishing 12th.

With 28 seniors moving on, including six starters on offense and five on defense, Colorado will have its work cut out for itself. Nick Hirschman is the new starting quarterback and Paul Richardson returns as one of the leading receivers in the conference.

But the majority of the roster will be composed of second- and third-year players, primarily guys who have not played much. Offensive tackle David Bakhtiari and safety Ray Polk will anchor a group in desperate need of veteran leadership.

Embree will get a chance to use players he has recruited specifically for his pro-style offense.

“I feel good with what we have coming in and it should help us moving forward,” Embree said. “I feel good with what we have … and the direction this program is heading.”
