National signing day: USC gets defensive back Lamont Simmons
USC announced Wednesday that it has received a national letter of intent from Lamont Simmons, a defensive back from Raines High in Jacksonville, Fla.
Simmons, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, joins a Trojans team that also includes tailback Javorius Allen, receiver Nelson Agholor, defensive lineman Leonard Williams and Quinton Powell, who are also from Florida.
USC Coach Steve Sarkisian compared Johnson to Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.
“The length that Lamont has for a corner is very similar to what the Seahawks have found in Richard Sherman,” Sarkisian said on USC’s website.
“It is a huge get for us to go into Florida and grab him.”
USC assistant Tee Martin said on the website that Simmons “has that speed you want to have in a corner.”
