Joey Logano wins NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Phoenix
Joey Logano drove to a dominant win Saturday in NASCAR’s second-level Xfinity Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
Logano, who mainly races in NASCAR’s top-tier Sprint Cup Series and won this year’s Daytona 500, started from the pole position and seldom was challenged.
He led 176 of the race’s 200 laps in his No. 22 Ford on the one-mile Phoenix International oval.
“It feels great to get a win -- what a day with the pole and the victory,” Logano said in Victory Lane.
Matt Kenseth finished second, Kevin Harvick was third and Austin Dillon finished fourth.
With 62 laps left, reigning Xfinity Series Champion Chase Elliott’s Chevrolet made contact with Ty Dillon’s Chevy, causing Elliott to spin and bringing out the caution flag.
On the restart, Logano was second behind Kenseth as the green flag was waved. But Logano quickly passed Kenseth to move back in front and never relinquished the lead.
