Pharrell Williams teams with Takashi Murakami on music video

Pop star Pharrell Williams has teamed up once again with his artistic kindred spirit and frequent collaborator Takaski Murakami on a new music video for the theme song to the Japanese artist’s new movie, “Jellyfish Eyes.”

The song, titled “Last Night, Good Night (Re:Dialed),” is given the animated superflat treatment in the video created by Murakami. The artist uses his signature anime-inspired characters, robots and furry creatures as well as Pharrell himself, who becomes an animated figure in Murakami’s hyper-colorful universe.

Murakami’s video has a running time of just under seven minutes. “Jellyfish Eyes” premiered at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in April 2013 and is touring the U.S. The movie is scheduled to play in downtown L.A. at the Theatre at Ace Hotel at 8 p.m. May 30.

On the evening before the screening, the Broad museum will present a live conversation between Murakami and writer Pico Iyer. The conversation is scheduled for 8 p.m. May 29 at the Orpheum Theatre downtown.
