‘Boardwalk Empire’ finale: Did the fans love it or hate it?

Share

Sunday night, “Boardwalk Empire” concluded after five seasons on HBO.

The series, created by former “Sopranos” writer Terence Winter, charted the life and times of bootlegger Enoch “Nucky” Thompson during the years of Prohibition.

Spoilers ahead: In the final episode, Nucky was gunned down by the son of Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt), who was killed by Nucky at the end of the show’s second season.

The finale drew 2.3-million viewers on Sunday night, up 7% from the show’s fourth season finale last year.

Unlike “The Sopranos,” the finale of “Boardwalk Empire” provided a decisive conclusion to the story. And it seemed fans, for the most part, were satisfied.

“It was a slow burn but the chicken finally came home to roost. Goodbye, Boardwalk Empire. I’ll shed a tear at leisure,” wrote Rahul Adusumilli on Twitter.

Dara Alamutu wrote, “Why though? Why? Was that necessary? Never heard of happy endings? @BoardwalkEmpire.”

Another fan wrote, “I didn’t love it, but I liked it. It was fitting and appropriate, even if a bit predictable.”

And another was so bold as to argue, “Y’know what? Boardwalk Empire had the ending Breaking Bad should’ve had. Made me happy.”
