Steven Tyler on ‘American Idol’ gig: ‘I loved it and hated it’

Share

Steven Tyler isn’t returning to “American Idol,” next season and in a new interview in Rolling Stone, the Aerosmith frontman reveals that he’s happy to have seen the last of the judge’s table.

“I loved it and hated it,” Tyler admitted to the magazine. “It was a great job, I sat next to J. Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life.”

Earlier this month, it became official that both Tyler and Jennifer Lopez would be departing “Idol” after having done it for two seasons. Fox has announced that Mariah Carey would be replacing Lopez, but a replacement for Tyler hasn’t been announced yet. Randy Jackson, the show’s third judge, is expected to return.

At the Television Critics Assn. press tour last week, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly told journalists, “Change is going to be part of this show going forward.”

Tyler recently wrapped up recording Aerosmith’s 15th studio album, “Music From Another Dimension!” He admitted that filming “Idol” while simultaneously recording the new album made for punishing workdays. Ultimately, he said “Idol” was “not my cup of tea.”
