TCA 2012: On ‘Homeland,’ Carrie and Brody’s unresolved feelings

Share

One of the pivotal highlights in the first season of Showtime’s “Homeland” was an episode in which Carrie, an emotionally troubled CIA agent, and Brody, a returning POW who Carrie suspects may be a terrorist, have a romantic interlude in a secluded cabin.

Their encounter has disastrous consequences, and that relationship will again be addressed in the upcoming season of the drama, which starts Sept. 30. Claire Danes, who plays Carrie, and Damian Lewis, who plays Brody, both said they were looking forward to the further exploration of that relationship.

“Carrie very dramatically has the upper hand,” Lewis said. “ But it’s less romantically inclined than professionally inclined.”

Danes said the connection between the two is a delicated balance: “It brought up things they were never able to see through. It’s tricky.”

The second season picks up several months after Carrie has been fired from the agency.
