Slater’s 50/50 to open, brings the bacon burger to Pasadena

Slater’s 50/50, the Orange County and San Diego bacon burger joint, is coming to Old Pasadena. The restaurant will begin serving up its 50/50 burger made with a 50% beef/50% bacon patty on Friday.

Slater’s, which took over the short-lived Vive lounge space, is a veritable bacon paradise with brick walls and flat screen TVs. Everything from the burger patty to the desserts to the bacon salt on the table has bacon in it, but the burger that reigns bacon king? The B’B’B’ Bacon Burger. This bad boy is made with the 50/50 patty, bacon American cheese -- yes, they have someone specially make the cheese with bacon in it -- sunny-side-up egg, thick-cut bacon and “Bacon Island” dressing on a bacon pretzel bun. What makes the pretzel bun a bacon pretzel bun? The buns are baked with bacon grease instead of butter and in place of the traditional salt sprinkle? Bacon bits.

FOR THE RECORD:
An earlier online version of this article included an incorrect phone number for Slater’s 50/50 in Pasadena. As this version notes, the number is (626) 765-9700.

If that’s not enough to get your bacon wheels turning, there are fried bacon mac ‘n’ cheese balls, fried chicken and pancakes with house-made bacon gravy, a bacon milkshake and a bacon brownie. And the gluttony doesn’t stop with the bacon.

There’s also a slew of mac ‘n’ cheese creations with the Buffalo chicken mac ‘n’ cheese with buffalo chicken bites, chopped celery, blue cheese crumbles and a toasted Cheez-Its crust or the baked potato mac ‘n’ cheese with mashed potatoes, cheddar, bacon, green onions and sour cream with a parmesan-panko crust.

Out of all the crazed creations on the menu, the highlight has to be the Peanut Butter & Jealousy burger. Yep, it’s a peanut butter sandwich and a burger in one -- with bacon of course. The patty is topped with peanut butter, strawberry jelly and thick-cut bacon on a honey wheat bun.

Slater’s also will have more than 100 craft, domestic and imported beers on tap.
