Butcher & Beer at Picnik, Dinner Lab for the public, BarFly Social Club party

Picnik is hosting a Butcher and Beer event with butchery demonstrations, bottomless beer and more

Picnik in Pasadena is hosting an event called Butcher & Beer Tuesday. Picnik butcher Micahel Puglisi will team up with chef Eduardo Ruiz for an evening of artisanal butchery demonstrations, dinner and bottomless Eagle Rock brews. The two will show a whole hog breakdown as well as demonstrate different cuts and techniques, brining and curing and offer expert tips and recipes. Guests will also learn about sausage-making and have the opportunity to enter raffles and receive gift cards for future use at Picnik. The festivities will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $80 per person and include food, beer, gift cards, swag bags and gratuity. Tickets must be purchased in advance online168 W. For the first time, Dinner Lab, the members-only pop-up dinner series is opening its doors to the public for chef Francisco Guzman's With Love to Mexico event Aug. 14. The dinner is designed to bring awareness to the ongoing violence caused by drug cartels in Guzman's homeland of Michoacán, Mexico, and will include items from chefs around the city. The chefs will prepare dishes from the six most affected regions. Gilberto Cetina from Chichen Itza will start the evening with braised octopus tacos, followed by Matt Dhillon from the Factoria Del Vicario Culinary Institute with chicken empanadas and smoked queso. Other dishes include oysters, braised birria and more. Dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased online. Proceeds from the dinner will be donated to Mexico Unido, a non-profit aimed at stopping violence in Mexico. 5400 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, www.dinnerlab.com.           

BarFly Social Club, a new smartphone app that curates a list of 50 bars, restaurants and lounges offering social hours or member-exclusive cocktail and food specials citywide will host a launch party Tuesday. The party will take place at the Riviera 31 lounge at the Sofitel Hotel.
