Psst! Want the chance to wine $250 to spend on the Michael Mina Wine Club?

Here’s the deal: San Francisco-based chef Michael Mina is proposing a contest. Share a photo of your favorite comfort food and wine pairing on Facebook before Wednesday and Mina will pick a winner.

Sounds too easy. What wins? The best photo? The best pairing?

Michael Mina will pick the winning photo without explaining the criteria. The winner will be announced on March 21. For details, check out Mina’s Facebook page.

So I’m poking around, looking to check out the competition for the prize. By Monday, seven people had entered. Pairings include a bowl of fresh handmade Pappardelle Bolognese with 2008 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva. Someone else entered macaroni and cheese with added lobster and picked a Gross Muskateller to go with it, but noting that no idea of the wine actually works with the mac n’ cheese: “I’m all about enjoying what I like and not what I’m told.” Other entries include quiche with Alpha Omega Pinot Noir and take-out spring rolls with Orin Swift China Doll.

Note: You have to “like” the Facebook page in order for the submission form to be revealed.

On Mina’s Facebook timeline, though, you can find plenty of photos of his idea of comfort food, i.e., new dishes at his various restaurants: beignets served with butterscotch made from Macallan 18-year-old Scotch or a dry-aged steak burger topped with a pickle and a pickled pepper. Or his tailgate pick, BBQ Kurobuta porchetta with turnip gratin and cider glaze.
