Partners Marc Rose and Med Abrous, owners of The Spare Room at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, have announced plans to open a new yet-to-be-named restaurant on the ground floor of The Elysian in Echo Park next fall.
The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and include a "general store" with packaged foods made daily, as well as specialty kitchen goods and tools, flowers and more, all curated by Rose and Abrous.
"Obviously, people expect us to probably open another bar, but we don't consider ourselves nightlife guys necessarily," Rose said. "We consider ourselves hospitality guys. We want to provide a three-meal-a-day restaurant that becomes a true neighborhood staple."
"Echo Park is developing rapidly and the offerings, the way we see it, haven't really been able to service the neighborhood," added Abrous.
The two have yet to select a chef, but say the restaurant will be an "American eatery that has everything that feels comfortable enough to eat three meals a day," but not necessarily comfort food.
"We want it to be approachable," said Rose. "So we'll use seasonal ingredients, and whatever is available to us."
Rose and Abrous plan on having a full liquor license, but expect a bar program a little different from the cocktails offered at The Spare Room.
"We'll definitely use fresh ingredients, but have a little more fun with the choice of spirits," said Abrous. "Being able to do a brunch, and more daytime cocktails is really exciting for us. So expect cocktails with a little more of a culinary twist."
The 75-seat restaurant will have both indoor and outdoor seating and the planned aesthetic will highlight architect William Pereira's original mid-century design of the building.
