Santa Ana winds are expected to bring warmer temperatures this week
Hold on to your hats, folks, because the Devil Winds are coming, and after an all-too-brief cool down, it’s going to get hot, hot, hot.
Well, kind of. OK, not really.
Forecasters are expecting daytime temperatures throughout the Southland to climb Wednesday and Thursday to the mid-to-high 80s and possibly some low 90s, said Bonnie Bartling, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
“These numbers are about 10 degrees above normal, but still a good 10 degrees below records,” the weather service forecast states.
If that is not exciting enough for you Phoenix or Green Bay, Wis., transplants, there’s the Santa Ana winds that will come whistling down the mountain passes.
As far as the Santa Ana events go, this one is actually a weak little thing that might result in some “low-end advisory winds,” Bartling said.
The San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys can expect winds from 15 to 25 mph. Los Angeles County mountains are likely to see 20-to-30-mph winds, with gusts up to 45 mph, Bartling said.
Temperatures are expected to cool back down to the upper 70s and lower 80s by Friday, forecasters said.
Then things will get really crazy.
“By Saturday the beaches will be right back to normal while the valleys will still be a few degrees above normal,” the weather service forecast states. “All in all it will be two very pleasant days.”
