L.A. sheriff’s cruiser flips over in Lancaster to avoid pedestrian

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department cruiser overturned in Lancaster late Thursday after a sergeant swerved to avoid hitting a pedestrian, authorities said.

The vehicle, headed to help deputies with a runaway suspect, was driving with its lights and sirens on, said Sheriff’s Deputy Lee Schriever. A pedestrian walked into the roadway in front of the vehicle, forcing the sergeant to make an evasive maneuver and overturning the vehicle.

The cruiser flipped over about 9 p.m. at Sierra Highway and West Avenue J8, Schriever said.

The sergeant was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. He may have lost consciousness after the crash, but was awake and able to speak to paramedics, Schriever said.
