In addition to extending a qualifying offer to Hanley Ramirez, the Dodgers announced on Monday that Brian Wilson would return next season and Scott Elbert wouldn’t.

Wilson exercised a player option for next season worth as much as $10 million, which is significantly more than he could get on the free-agent market.

Wilson, 32, was a major disappointment for the Dodgers this season. He posted a 4.66 earned-run average in 61 appearances and looked nothing like the shutdown setup man he was the previous year.

With Wilson returning, the Dodgers will have to be extremely creative to make changes to their bullpen. The team’s two best relievers, Kenley Jansen and J.P. Howell, will return. But so will Brandon League, who will earn $7.5 million next year.

Elbert almost certainly won’t be part of the mix.

Elbert elected to become a free agent rather than accept a minor-league assignment.

Elbert, 29, was the Dodgers’ first-round draft pick in 2004.

The left-hander showed promise, as he posted a 2.32 ERA in 90 games from 2011-12.

But he underwent three elbow operations over the next two years.

He returned to the major leagues this year and made the Dodgers playoff roster. He gave up a two-run home run in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 3 of the National League division series.
