Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins replacing injured Kobe Bryant in All-Star Game

Kobe Bryant will miss his second straight All-Star Game in February, out for the season with a torn rotator cuff.

On Friday, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver added Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins to the Western Conference All-Star roster as Bryant’s replacement.

Bryant was voted in as a starter, by the fans last week, to his 17th All-Star Game, second only to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was selected 19 times over his career.

The 36-year old Bryant missed last year’s game with a knee injury, and also sat out in 2010, and played a token three minutes in 2008.

Making his first All-Star appearance, Cousins is averaging 23.8 points and 12.3 rebounds a game this season for the Kings.

He’ll join Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans); Marc Gasol (Memphis Grizzlies); Blake Griffin and Chris Paul (Clippers); Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors); Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook (San Antonio Spurs); LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland Trail Blazers); James Harden (Houston Rockets); and Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs).

The Eastern Conference will be represented by Pau Gasol (Chicago Bulls); LeBron James and Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers); John Wall (Washington Wizards); Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors); Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks); Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls); Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh (Miami Heat); and Al Horford, Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague (Atlanta Hawks).

Starters were named by fan vote, while NBA coaches chose the reserves. The commissioner may also need to replace Wade (hamstring) on the East’s squad.

All-Star snubs include Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers), Mike Conley (Grizzlies), Kyle Korver (Hawks), Brandon Knight (Milwaukee Bucks) and DeAndre Jordan (Clippers). Korver or Knight might be the favorites to fill in for Wade.

The game will be held in New York at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 15.
