Former USC outside linebacker Devon Kennard has been named the NFC defensive player of the week, the NFL announced.

Kennard, a fifth-round pick by the New York Giants, is the first rookie from the organization to win the award.

Kennard had two sacks and forced a fumble in a 36-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday.

“I am so grateful for what God is doing through me right now. #GMEN,” Kennard wrote on his Instagram, with a photo announcing the award.

Kennard was sidelined the first three games of this season because of a hamstring injury. He has started three of the last four and made eight tackles for losses, including four sacks.
