Documentary focuses on Long Beach Poly football

Long Beach Poly’s football team will be the focus of a six-episode documentary being produced by USA Football and Hudl.

The program will debut on Sept. 3 at 8 a.m. for Hudl subscribers and each 12-minute episode will be released each Thursday through Oct. 8. Forty-eight hours after debuting on Hudl, it will air on usafootball.com.

Cameras have been following Coach Antonio Pierce and the team since July.

“USA Football and Hudl wanted to talk about the life a high school athlete and what makes it special and the connection of playing at Long Beach Poly under the lights,” Pierce said. “It’s a good story about guys working and grinding.”

Cameras followed the team to Arizona last week, where the Jackrabbits opened their season with a 13-12 victory.

Poly is expected to receive more attention next week with a top game scheduled against Narbonne. And the Jackrabbits also will be in the spotlight because of the arrival of Westlake transfer Malik Henry, a Florida State quarterback commit who Pierce said has officially enrolled and could be available to play against the Gauchos.

“They caught all the drama of kids starting football again,” Pierce said.

They also had Pierce with a microphone during practice listening in. And that’s drama.
