Football: Narbonne’s Alex Akingbulu gets emotional in selecting UCLA
After his teammates jumped up and around him following his annoucement on Thursday morning that he had selected UCLA as his college choice, Alex Akingbulu, an All-City offensive tackle from Narbonne, got emotional.
The tears started coming down after he took a photo with Coach Manuel Douglas.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pound senior didn’t even think football would be in his future until Douglas recruited him off the basketball court last year to play football.
“It’s been a big journey,” Akingbulu said. “I never thought I’d be in this position. It’s happening so fast. I thank God.”
Narbonne is set to play Dorsey on Friday in a City Section Division I semifinal playoff game. The team went through a final one-hour practice Thursday morning. At the end, Akingbulu made his announcement with teammates gathered around.
He won’t forget the moment for a long time.
