Chow down at the newest Mr Chow in December
Reporting from Las Vegas — Mr Chow, the upscale Chinese restaurant from restauranteur Peter Chow, is taking over the former Empress Garden space at Caesars Palace, with an opening scheduled for December. Originally the celebrity dining spot planned to open at the Harmon, the City Center tower that is now being torn down due to construction defects.
The menu focuses on Beijing cuisine with European-style service. Look for some of the chain’s most popular dishes, such as chicken satay, green prawns, hand-pulled Mr Chow noodles and perhaps the restaurant’s most famous dish, Peking duck.
The restaurant, the seventh in the chain, plans to highlight champagnes on the menu and roll them through the dining room on a trolley.
The multi-level space overlooks the resort’s Garden of the Gods pools. Chow himself, who has designed boutiques for Giorgio Armani, plans to create the look of the restaurant.
Mr Chow also has locations in Malibu, Beverly Hills, New York, Miami and London. The restaurant originally opened on Valentine’s Day in 1968 in the Knightsbridge section of London. In 1974, Mr Chow expanded to the United States, opening a location in the heart of Beverly Hills. New York City welcomed its first Mr Chow on 57th Street in 1979. In 2006, a TriBeCa location opened, featuring a black-and-white lacquer dining room and original artwork by Julian Schnabel, Andy Warhol and Helmut Newton. In August 2009, the restaurant opened in the W Hotel in South Beach, Fla. The Malibu Country Mart location debuted in 2012.
