Earthquake: 2.6 quake strikes near Avalon, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 2.6 earthquake was reported Thursday afternoon 13 miles from Avalon, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:54 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 0 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 17 miles from Newport Beach.

In the last 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
