Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes south of Eureka

Magnitude 3.0 earthquake reported 33 miles south of Eureka in Northern California

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Wednesday afternoon 33 miles south of Eureka, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 2:34 p.m. PST at a depth of 17.4 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 19 miles from Fortuna, Calif., and 37 miles from Bayside, Calif.

In the last 10 days, there have been three earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
