An off-duty Fontana police officer was killed while riding his motorcycle on a mountain road above Azusa.

Officer Thomas Chamberlin, 26, died about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control on Highway 39 in the Angeles National Forest, according to announcements made Wednesday by the Fontana Police Department and California Highway Patrol.

Chamberlin “veered off the roadway in a westerly direction, subsequently striking the side of the mountain,” the CHP said.
