Man walking on southbound 405 is struck and killed, temporarily closing all southbound lanes

A man walking on the southbound 405 Freeway near Torrance was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday, forcing the closure of all southbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident occurred about 4:25 a.m. near Artesia Boulevard and left the man lying in the slow lane, according to the CHP accident log.

Southbound traffic was being routed off at Redondo Beach Boulevard.

All southbound lanes of the freeway were reopened at 8 a.m., the CHP said.

The crash remains under investigation.
