Five people were shot in two separate incidents in South Los Angeles on Friday, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to declare a modified tactical alert in the area.

The two shootings do not appear to be connected. But the South Bureau area of the LAPD has seen seven homicides in the last two weeks, prompting officials to aggressively respond to the incidents.

One shooting occurred around Harvard Park near the corner of Western and Gage avenues. Three people were shot. Their conditions were not immediate available, but police sources say the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
