Man found dead at Canyon High School likely died of natural causes

A middle-aged man who was found dead in the parking lot of Canyon High School in Santa Clarita on Tuesday afternoon appears to have died of natural causes, authorities said.

The 54-year-old man, who was not identified, apparently collapsed and was discovered by a campus deputy about 12:15 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Tom Bryski.

Los Angeles County firefighters pronounced the man dead at the scene. The death appeared to be from natural causes, Bryski said, although an official cause has yet to be determined pending results from an autopsy.

Though unrelated, the incident may have frayed some nerves already on edge in the Santa Clarita community: one of two students arrested over the weekend for jokingly threatening school violence had directed his comment toward Canyon High School. Both students were taken into custody by deputies Sunday.
