Driver flees after car flies off 110 Freeway, crashes into yard

California Highway Patrol officers were looking for a man who fled after his vehicle flew off the 110 Freeway and crashed in the backyard of a home in the Pico-Union neighborhood.

The car went off the freeway near West 17th and Toberman streets about 9:18 p.m., the CHP said.

“The driver fled soon after,” CHP Officer Alex Rubio told The Times.

A structure that appeared to be a garage was heavily damaged, according to television news footage.

Officers on scene reported finding blood and other evidence in the vehicle indicating that the driver had been injured, the CHP said.

Rubio said officers were checking hospitals to see if the driver was being treated for his injuries.

No injuries were reported to residents in the home.
