Greuel, mulling supervisor bid, talks politics at Cosmo panel in NYC

Wendy Greuel is still seriously pondering a run for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, but hasn’t made a final decision, according to sources close to her.

But the former Los Angeles city controller and failed mayoral candidate appeared to offer a few hints at a Cosmopolitan magazine panel in New York City last week.

“If you lose, run again. That’s what the guys do,” she told the crowd, according to tweets of the event. “This isn’t the end of my career. I still want to make L.A., and the country, better.”

Greuel reflected on her mayoral campaign, saying that her only regrets were the times she listened to advisers rather than trusting her gut. And she marveled at some of the responses she has received since Eric Garcetti beat her in May.

“Do you say that to a guy? ‘You lost a race, you look really good?’ ” Greuel said, according to tweets of the event.

Greuel appeared at the event alongside Christine Quinn, who unsuccessfully ran for mayor of New York City this year. Both women would have been the first female leaders of their respective cities.

“We both came very close to breaking that glass ceiling. It’s been cracked. We have to keep cracking it,” Greuel said.

A decision by Greuel on whether she is running for termed-out Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky’s seat is expected early next year. Already running are former state lawmaker Sheila Kuehl, who has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and racked up scores of endorsements, as well as West Hollywood City Councilman John Duran and former Malibu Mayor Pamela Conley Ulich. Former Santa Monica Mayor Bobby Shriver is expected to jump into the race next year.
