Police said they shot an armed man Thursday night near Long Beach City College’s Pacific Coast Campus.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. after officers saw two men arguing. When police approached, one of the men ran with a backpack and a gun, Long Beach Chief Jim McDonnell told reporters.

The unidentified man eventually stopped running and opened fire.

“The suspect was outside in a position waiting for the officer, a shot was fired,” McDonnell said.
